I've also noticed this time that when I have my lights on and turn the car off they won't go off automatically like they usually do.
Something bizarre going on! I have recently fitted a reversing camera to my car, it's fed from the connect premium unit, I can't see this being the problem but it's a bit of a coincidence. Has this happened to anybody else? It's embarrassing having to climb in and out the passenger door. Before I go out and buy a new battery or actuator for the door I thought I'd ask on here if anyone had a clue what's going on. Any help appreciated.
Sounds like a battery issue. Trouble with everything being controlled by the ecu is that if it runs short of power really funny things happen. Is there an ecu rest procedure for ? If there is it might be worth doing this and seeing if it solves all the issues which will then indicate it's just a battery issue. Agree with PaulW I think if it were me I'd get a diagnostics done first to clear any errors caused by the flat battery, mine went flat very recently and I had the bonnet actuator light on, bazaar but with the help on here turned it off during diagnostics and it's been running perfect ever since.
Don't spend money out on bits until your really sure you have cleared any issues with having a flat battery would be my advice. Good luck hope it gets sorted.
Yeah there is an ECU reset for the z, it's similar to the z one. I've already tried this! It cleared the engine management light that was on because of my HFCs. Door still shut tho. Did you fit the camera yourself? Which kit did you use? It is possible that the camera is wired into a permanent live. And that sounds like a good bet as the battery should hold charge for a couple of weeks.
Yeah it turns out it does have a permanent live, I'm hopefully getting the correct loom sent out soon. I did fit it myself but I have electrical background in the job I do so it wasn't something beyond me.
If so, how are you unlocking it? If you are using the fob, does it unlock when you press the unlock button twice in quick succession? Also, does it unlock if you lean across and press the unlock button on the drivers door? Yeah it won't unlock at all, tried everything including the key that pops out the fob. As I said it happened 1st time it died but strarted to work again but this time it hasn't worked at all. Blimey, if the key doesn't do it then that's weird.
I can understand the ECU getting confused but the key is mechanical and should just work. Presumably you can open the door with the internal handle though? Even when the doors are locked you can still pull the handle to open it from the inside.
